Illumination Cairns

Cairns Annual White Party – ILLUMINATION, brought to you by SILVER GEM, will be held at AJ Hackett Cairns in Smithfield on October 22nd this year. The Council approved event is a highly anticipated night out with the audience dressed in WHITE. The event attracts a broad demographic from the community. The line-up includes Didgeridoo performances, African Drums, Fire twirling, Colour Lasers, 3D Mapping, Mandala Art and the latest in Electronic Music. Originally founded in 2000 by Dean and Veronica O’Shannessey in Lake Placid, ILLUMINATION is dedicated to highlighting Artists and Performers from Far North Queensland.

Sacred Earth

Based in Australia, Sacred Earth is the creation of Jethro & Prem Williams. Jethro & Prem have been traveling the world for 12 years performing live the music of Sacred Earth. Prem shares with us her heart felt devotion for Spirit and our precious Mother Earth through mantra and songs from the heart. Prem is supported by multi instrumentalist Jethro Williams, playing an array of flutes from around the world including Shakuhachi (Japanese flute), Indian Bansuri, Irish Tin & Low whistles, Acoustic Guitar and songs from the heart. Beautiful beautiful music.

Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI)

Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI) is a support agency for young people aged 12-25 years old residing in Far North Queensland. YETI was established in 1995 and is a not for profit non-government organisation. YETI is overseen by a Management Committee and receives funding from both the State and Federal government. The agency facilitates a range of programs focusing on the needs of vulnerable young people, including: a day program; case management; therapeutic counselling; outreach; and research and evaluation.

The Cultural Centre

The Cultural Centre project is of historical importance as it brings together culture in any form for conferences, workshops, providing one-stop service for regular lessons and leasing instruments and room for the above purposes. It will also host a Cultural Festival every year in Cairns presenting workshops to showcase talent from international maestros, national and local professionals, junior Eisteddfod champions and passionate amateurs, providing pick up and drop off service to partner/member cultural businesses/organisations from primary schools to locations of extracurricular activities. To unite culture in every form and embrace art, language and everything else to inspire artists, and help the region prosper! The Cultural Festival will attract tourists, create jobs and enrich the local entertainment industry. Also expecting to link with CQU performing and visual art programs, and to connect with Griffith University Confucius Institute for Chinese literature education. Hosting a Cairns Cultural Festival every year, supporting local cultural organisations and events, and providing funding and/or scholarship to talented artists and students.

Mulgrave Shire Historical Society

Head towards the sugar mill in Gordonvale, across the train and cane crossing you will find the museum carpark on the left hand side. This building was purpose-built to house objects used by settlers in the area then called Nelson in the late 1800s. The museum has a number of historical items and displays relating to the old Mulgrave Shire donated from the local community. Established in 1993.​ Visit and discover a local history.​ The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
