Bats and Trees Society of Cairns
Bats and Trees Society of Cairns Inc is a community based organisation aiming to raise awareness of the threatened and iconic spectacled flying-fox and other bats in Cairns and surrounding regions. We do this through educational, informative and engaging events like Bat Chats at Cairns CBD library grounds and via stalls at community events and festivals. We also run educational activities for schools.

On September 26th 2014 conservation enthusiasts of the Wet Tropics in Far North Queensland gathered at Kuranda to celebrate Cassowaries for the inaugural World Cassowary Day. Kuranda was chosen to launch World Cassowary Day, as Kuranda is the home of the indigenous Djabugay people, for the Djabugay the Cassowary is their totem since time immemorial.
