Cedar Park Rainforest Resort

Cedar Park Rainforest Resort is a privately owned, award winning wildlife retreat situated between the famous rainforest village of Kuranda and the bustling rural town of Mareeba. Just forty minutes from Cairns International Airport, all the attractions of Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands are easily accessible. Cedar Park is a convenient base to enjoy all this amazing area has to offer. Cedar Park's Gothic style lodge is situated in the rainforest along a spring fed creek offering wading and swimming holes. With only six suites, our retreat is an intimate and peaceful place to step back from life's fast pace. Your spacious and cool stone-floored suite has a private outdoor area to soak in the sounds of the rainforest around you. Bordering national park, guests may hike a loop through the rainforest for a healthy one hour exploration. Wallabies wander through the property and its unlikely you'll visit us without seeing many. We have a resident peacock who likes to spread his feathers. In the creek there are several Platypus who are often spotted by guests. The Restaurant at Cedar Park features covered al fresco dining in nature. Sip a drink from the bar as the sun goes down and the evening wildlife tunes in, then savor a delicious home cooked meal. Our complementary continental buffet breakfast is served in the same setting. Cedar Park has the advantage of being adjacent to the Barron Gorge National Park, an area of rainforest, gorges and waterfalls. An enormous variety of flora and fauna abound amongst the thick vegetation, many of which are often viewed from your room's veranda. Bird-watchers come especially to sight rare and seasonal birds. Professors have brought student groups to study the insects, frogs, lichens and medicinal plants located on our property and across the creek in the national park.

Kuranda Riverboat Tours

The Kuranda Riverboat has been operating since 1982 during which time it has built a reputation for offering informative river cruises. One main feature has been the ability to provide quality tours at very reasonable rates without clients having to travel great distances from major accommodation centres in the Cairns region. We operate five daily 45 minute riverboat cruises. A cruise on the Kuranda Riverboat will leave you relaxed and refreshed. The calm waters of the beautiful upland Barron River in Kuranda provide great photographic opportunities whilst your skipper gives you an insight into some of the history of Kuranda, the ancient tropical rainforest and the animals, reptiles and birds that reside in this unique area of Tropical North Queensland. The river is home to freshwater crocodiles, turtles, species of fish, snakes, water dragons and many species of tropical birds. There may even be a cassowary sighting during your cruise. Our cruises/tours depart from our riverside jetty below the Kuranda Railway/Skyrail Stations, over the railway footbridge and down the stairs where you will see our red flags flying. Our tours are suitable for all ages.

Cassowary House & Tours

Cassowary House is a small family run guest house which lies in the world heritage tropical rain forests of Far North Queensland, within 30 minutes drive of Cairns. It was established in 1985 as a guest-house for those with an interest in natural history, particularly birds, and was one of the first birding businesses to set up in Far North Queensland. We offer a true rainforest experience. Apart from a small garden envelope immediately adjacent to the main house, the grounds and surrounding area are unspoilt rainforest, a great place to sit and relax or take quiet walks. The verandahs on the main house and also on the twin guest rooms are elevated and look straight out into the branches of the surrounding trees. The single rooms are under the main house and Cassowaries and musky rat-kangaroos are frequently seen from their patio. Cassowary House is a great place for those with an interest in bird and wildlife photography, and one of the best places in the world to see wild Cassowary, with thousands of birders getting their lifer here!
